Certified B Corps are a new form of business that seeks to balance purpose and profit.
It's a shift from the business model of shareholder capitalism to stakeholder capitalism. This means that, rather than solely focusing on profit maximisation for a handful of shareholders, a business considers the impact of its operations on everyone it affects - workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment.
A B Corp is a company verified by B Lab as meeting the gold standard of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.
B Lab is the non-profit organisation that is working to shift the behaviour, culture, and structural underpinnings of capitalism. B Corp Certification is one of the tools they're using to drive change.

The current economic system, driven by business as one of its key actors, is failing. It's driving climate collapse, social injustice, and many more negative impacts for people, communities, and the planet.
It doesn't have to be this way. The B Corp movement is working to shift the global economy to one that's regenerative and equitable.
Thousands of businesses are already on board, proving that you can be profitable in business while working collectively to shift the behaviour, culture, and structures of shareholder capitalism and move to a model of stakeholder capitalism.
Stakeholder capitalism is about building businesses that regenerate and sustain people and planet, not extract and pollute in pursuit of financial profit.
What is a B Corp?
Why be a B Corp?
Fundamentally, B Corp Certification is a measure of the 'good' that your business creates in the world from its operations and business model.
This 'good', or positive impact, is assessed across five areas of your business - Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers.
The process starts with a free online self-assessment tool called the B Impact Assessment (BIA). Just register for a free account, provide basic details of your company such as size, sector, and geography, then you'll be served about 200 questions.
Scores are given for each of the five areas and totalled to give you an overall score. It's easy to see where you excel as a business and where improvements can be made.
To apply for B Corp certification, your overall score needs to be 80 points or more.
